Barobo has secured a $500,000 grant to be administered over the next 2 years for their Mobot (short for modular robot)—with promises of another $500,000 if the company can make sales and attract venture capital, according to UC Davis.
Barobo was started by Harry Cheng, professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UC Davis, and one of his former graduate students.
According to Professor Cheng, the Mobot will be a very useful tool for teaching robotics as early as third grade, and engage a new generation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The units can be ordered for $269.95 on Barobo’s website.
