Freescale Semiconductors has introduced a new entry-level toolset which creates a platform for combining mechanics, electronics, and software into an integrated system. FSLBOT provides the basic hardware and software for development of a walking robot, starting at $200.
FSLBOT is a walking robot with 4 degrees of freedom, standing 9 inches (23cm) tall and containing three-axis accelerometer and magnetometer, onboard 32-bit RISC processor, electronics to control four additional servos and sample and development software, according to Gizmag. As compared to Honda’s Asimo robot which has 57 degrees of freedom—each DOF having servo-control and position sensing—standing 4’3″ tall, weighs 106 lbs, can walk, run 6.7 mph, for about $1 mil.
